Sandy Hook
It's been a year since the Sandy Hook shooting in Connecticut. The 20 year old man went into a harmless elementary school and killed 26 child and adults in 11 minutes. 20 of those dead were children and he killed his mom. After the shooting, talk about gun violence was on the rise. People were talking about arming teachers during school. A major dilemma was trying to be resolved. I still don't think it's resolved to this day. Even though there hasn't been any shootings, we still don't know what to do if this happens again. The resolutions to this problems have there pros and cons. Arming a teacher with a gun is a lot more protective than having nothing. But if that teacher doesn't use the gun properly, something bad is bound to happen. I think the best solution would be to increase your security by having more policeman at a school or investing into a much better security system. We don't really know what will happen, but we hope it helps out in the long run.

About a week ago, Amazon revealed drones the have been testing. These drones are called octocopters. They have 8 propellers and a little box in the middle to control it. They can lift up to 5 pounds as of now. Amazon says 5 pound goods cover 86 % of their total products. These octocopters can send packages to your house in 30 minutes. I think that with this type of technology, it could help us with next generation technology. I could help us take a step forward in the future and making things more efficient. Amazon says they run on electricity which is more efficient for the environment. They also said that it's going to be a few years before this whole project is going to done. With a couple years of waiting, something really cool could happen.

About a week ago, there was a devastating typhoon in the Philippines. It was one the worst in history and know they are needing some aid to get on their feet again. As of now there is about 4000 confirmed deaths, over 18000 people injured, and over 1500 people missing. Pretty much these people are living in awful conditions as of now. These people have nothing left expect for the land they stand on. With 230 mph winds and massive waves it makes sense that these people are left with nothing. I think we need to send lots of aid and donations to these people to help them from this horrible storm. Not even the strongest storm could tear up down. People always get back up and become stronger. I believe this thought will help these people get through the tough times.

Red Cross Workers Kidnapped in Syria
At around 11:30 in Syria on October 12, some Red Cross workers would not show their nationalities to some people so they were abducted. Simon Schorno, the spokesman for the international committee of the Red Cross has not provided the nationalities of the people kidnapped. It's said the gunman opened fire of the red cross' vehicles and then took them. They are saying this is related to the Syrian civil war. The conflict has killed over 100000 people and has forced millions to flee from Syria. Acts of terrorism are ripping the country apart and the people can't do much about it. It's like Syria is self-destructing. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens in Syria.

Gunman on the loose
About three hours ago a man by the name of Sang Ho Kim is on the loose after a deadly office shooting in NY. The gunman killed one person and wounded another. Apparently he was in a bad business deal. They say he fled in a 2008 Honda Pilot and as of now is still being tracked by the FBI. The shooting has caused schools to close and the Roosevelt Field mall is on lockdown. Once again there is another shooting. Why are there so many shootings going on in our society. It's like your hear about a shooting each day and there's really nothing we can do. I fell that it has been a problem for many years and there hasn't been a solution. I just don't know.

Today we will be talking about the shooting that took place in Washington D. C. earlier this week. It all started when the navy tweeted that shots were fired at 8:20 on monday. Officers say the gunman went into the building and took a shotgun into the bathroom to get ready. Then he first shot an officer below him and took his gun. Then he would go on to kill 12 more people. !2 people died at the scene and the other died at the hospital. He was then comfronted by the police and was also killed on the scene. What I don't understand is why so many people are going to places and killing so many people. There have been a lot of shhoting in the past couple of years and we don't really know what to do. They are seriously thinking about arming teachers! I feel that is a crazy idea just because they could get really mad at a student and shoot them or something like that. We just don't know what to do.

This week we will talk about Americans. 1 and 5 Americans are unable to buy food. This is once again bringing up issues such as poverty in America and the homeless of America. We just can't find an answer to these problems. These issues have been problems for many years now and most people don't seem to care about it. People don't realize there are starving and there are people that don't have the money to pay for food. I feel like we need to address this problem to the public to get it into their thick skulls. If you do the math, there are about 60 million people that can't afford food. That number is probably going to continue to rise if we don't do something. So I all think we should.

Yosemite fire
In e past couple of weeks there has been a very large forest fire that has inflamed a very popular national park. This national park is known as Yosemite nation park. Firefighters have been at work for a long time trying to contain the fire. As of now, 80% of the fire has been contained. Here are some interesting facts about the forest fire: over 4,300 firefighters are at work trying to clear the fire, 111 structures have been destroyed including 11 homes, and it ignited an illegal marijuana farm. The nearby fire department has not found a cause of the fire. The fire has burned 370 acres of land for the past 18 days. It's the fourth biggest forest fire in California history. We don't know when the fire is going to stop, but it looks like its coming to an end soon.

Syria
Hello once again, last week we talked about the events going on is Egypt. This week we will talk about something that has caught my intrest a lot more than Egypt. That would be the violence in Syria. I've seen so much news about because of all the predictions and attacks that might happen. As of now, president Obama has asked congress to give the go for the use of missiles against Syria. If this happens, we could be looking at another war possibly even another world war. We just don't know until someone makes a move. I feel it's best that we should leave Syria alone for now because we should let them work out their problems. Plus It could keep tensions down between the U.S., Russia, and China. I don't think war is the answer right now because we already have enough foreign and domestic problems. But that's just my opinion and the real power of the U.S. might have different ideas.

Lots of things have been going on around the world today. But one that really sticks out to me is the events going on in Egypt. On July 3rd, the military overthrew their president Mohamad Morsi. Now tyhe country is nearly self destructing because of all the violence of this. But what can this mean for the U.S.? It means that gas prices could continue to rise and cost us a fortune. The imports of gas and oil are driving up because of shipping insurance. The U.S. also relies on Egypt on several more issues such as counterterrorism, and Arab-Isreal peace. But we don't know the outcome of these issues because we don't know the outcome of the Egypt mess. The U.S. will have to wait to see what happens but for know all we hope for is that whatever happens benefits us.
